Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent No. 217 on Xavier Truss, a name the board had a full 76 spots lower.

They banked enough surplus on Loveland to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
