Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Commanders: B. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 128, a reach of 52 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
However the rest shakes out, Cornelius at that price is a win they earned. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In the 29th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick61
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Somehow Omarion Hampton was still sitting there in No. 61, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick128
Rnd4
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in slot 128 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick205
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
They barely believed it either: Ajani Cornelius still on the board at the 205th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick245
Rnd7
Howard Cross III
Circle this one: Howard Cross III at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
