Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Smith: B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Brashard Smith, the No. 100 name on the board, stolen at the 226th overall pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Every board in the league had Griffith lower, and that gap is the story. Spending an early pick on safety with wide receiver, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Mason Graham
Mason Graham in pick No. 11 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick43 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Steal is underselling it; Nick Emmanwori at slot 43 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick75 Rnd3 Tyler Warren
A tight end of that caliber at the 75th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jake Majors
Jake Majors is a better player than Round 3, Pick 35 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick111 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
They bypassed pressing needs at wide receiver, quarterback and other spots to take Andrew Mukuba, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick137 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick185 Rnd6 Thor Griffith
A big swing on Thor Griffith at the 185th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick226 Rnd7 Brashard Smith
Taking Brashard Smith in pick 226 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick230 Rnd7 Addison West
You do not let an offensive lineman like Addison West reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
