Draft Grade — Steelers

FutureA
The Steelers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the B-. The Steelers lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They are betting Tate proves the room right and everyone else wrong. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The Guyton pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick52
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Guyton at the 52nd pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick74
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Sedrick Van Pran adds an offensive lineman and leaves interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick84
Rnd3
Jalen McMillan
Jalen McMillan at pick 84 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Pick109
Rnd4
Beau Brade
They paid sticker price for Beau Brade in the 109th overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick119
Rnd4
Max Melton
A slide stopped in Round 4, Pick 19, with Max Melton worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick120
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
The board had cheaper options than Jordan Travis at the Round 4 slot, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick198
Rnd6
Omar Speights
Omar Speights in pick No. 198 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick241
Rnd7
Demorie Tate
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Demorie Tate well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
