Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueB NeedC+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Browns let Spears fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

When a board-topper like Dashawn Spears slides to pick 107, you do not overthink it, and the Browns did not. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

They are betting Green proves the room right and everyone else wrong. It is not that Moore is a bad player; it is that the Browns had louder needs to answer first. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Leonard Moore
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Leonard Moore adds a cornerback and leaves tight end and running back untouched.
Pick24 Rnd1 David Stone
They read the board right and David Stone was the payoff at the Round 1 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick46 Rnd2 Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kenyatta Jackson Jr. in pick 46, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick85 Rnd3 Josh Hoover
A premium they did not need to pay, Josh Hoover a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick99 Rnd3 Luke Montgomery
The board fumbled Luke Montgomery all the way to No. 99, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick107 Rnd4 Dashawn Spears
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 107 on Dashawn Spears with tight end and running back unsolved.
Pick116 Rnd4 Ian Strong
They barely believed it either: Ian Strong still on the board at the 116th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick139 Rnd5 Tony Rojas
They liked Tony Rojas enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 139. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick144 Rnd5 John Curry
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on John Curry. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick147 Rnd5 AJ Green
A wild overpay on AJ Green in No. 147, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick204 Rnd6 Christian Alliegro
Christian Alliegro in the 204th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick213 Rnd6 Jake Guarnera
Jake Guarnera in Round 6, Pick 34 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick214 Rnd6 Niki Prongos
Niki Prongos at slot 214 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick248 Rnd7 C.J. Fite
Steal is underselling it; C.J. Fite at pick 248 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
