Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Saints did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Saints took Hayden Conner at the Round 3 slot, roughly 116 spots before his name belonged. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

The Harvey value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.

They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Shemar Stewart
In No. 9 they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
Taking Walter Nolen in Round 2, Pick 8 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick71 Rnd3 Kyle Kennard
A straight-up fair deal on Kyle Kennard at pick 71, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick93 Rnd3 Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111 Rnd4 Charles Grant
The board had Charles Grant higher than the 111th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick130 Rnd4 Billy Bowman Jr.
They read the board right and Billy Bowman Jr. was the payoff at slot 130. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick186 Rnd6 RJ Harvey
A running back of that caliber at No. 186 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick254 Rnd7 Xzavier Henderson
They liked Xzavier Henderson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 254th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
