Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall

FutureA+
Best value of the weekend goes to the Dolphins for Lane: A-. You build a draft on nights like this. Jaylin Lane had no business being available in Round 5, Pick 12, and the Dolphins did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Conner reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. It is not that Watts is a bad player; it is that the Dolphins had louder needs to answer first.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, with Malaki Starks leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Malaki Starks
In pick 17 they get a two-high chess piece, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart at Round 2, Pick 12 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick48
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Xavier Watts adds a safety and leaves edge rusher untouched.
Pick51
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Circle this one: Omarion Hampton at pick No. 51 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick76
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
A reasonable price with a little left over, Carson Schwesinger in the 76th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick98
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander in the 98th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick116
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
They did well to land Anthony Belton in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick118
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Good price on Joshua Farmer in No. 118, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
Value with a capital V on Jordan Phillips in pick No. 119, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick135
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
By-the-book stuff, Hollin Pierce at No. 135 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick149
Rnd5
Logan Brown
Logan Brown at the 149th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jaylin Lane
They barely believed it either: Jaylin Lane still on the board at Round 5, Pick 12. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick196
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
A straight-up fair deal on Oronde Gadsden II at the 196th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Carson Vinson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick228
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson at pick 228 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick231
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
Jermari Harris in slot 231 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick242
Rnd7
Ja'Corey Brooks
A tidy bit of business in No. 242, where Ja'Corey Brooks graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick244
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
They reached into another round for Hayden Conner, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick253
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan in the 253rd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
