jkondritz DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Texans: B-. Nobody else had Isaac Rex anywhere near the 238th pick. The Texans did, by 84 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The Legette value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske in pick 42 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick59
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa at pick No. 59 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick86
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at No. 86 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick123
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Nice patience on Braelon Allen, who had no business lasting to slot 123. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick127
Rnd4
Malik Mustapha
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malik Mustapha. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick188
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
A tidy little value on Dwight McGlothern in Round 6, Pick 13, a step better than break-even. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick189
Rnd6
Tyrice Knight
Tyrice Knight at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick238
Rnd7
Isaac Rex
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaac Rex well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
Pick247
Rnd7
Frank Crum
Frank Crum in the 247th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
