Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C+
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA
The Patriots got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C+.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Patriots, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Ali reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

If Olumuyiwa Fashanu and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In slot 7 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
They liked J.J. McCarthy enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 34. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick38 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell in the 38th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick71 Rnd3 Ricky Pearsall
They paid sticker price for Ricky Pearsall in Round 3, Pick 7, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103 Rnd4 Jaden Hicks
They took Jaden Hicks at par in pick 103, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick122 Rnd4 DJ James
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and DJ James at the Round 4 slot is the proof. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick140 Rnd5 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at the 140th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick182 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs at pick No. 182 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick184 Rnd6 Rasheen Ali
They jumped the gun on Rasheen Ali, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jeremy Flax
Jeremy Flax in No. 224 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick232 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joshua Cephus. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
