A respectable, level-headed haul for the 49ers: B-. There is a lot to like until you notice running back is still a hole. The 49ers never got to the one that mattered most.
However the rest shakes out, Johnson at that price is a win they earned. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Tyler Guyton
In pick No. 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick32
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick124
Rnd4
Elijah Jones
A tidy little value on Elijah Jones in pick 124, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick131
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams at slot 131 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick133
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson slid further than he should have, and the 133rd overall pick is lovely value for the tight end. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
