Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
C+
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesD+
FutureB-
The Seahawks did enough to get by: C+. Thirty-one other rooms let Junior Colson slide, and the Seahawks were the ones holding the card at Round 3, Pick 17. Highway robbery.
The cost of the Okie-Anoma reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
If Kris Jenkins and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick36
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
They paid a round early for Kris Jenkins in slot 36, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick40
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at the 40th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick78
Rnd3
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at Round 3, Pick 14 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick81
Rnd3
Junior Colson
You do not let a linebacker like Junior Colson reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick119
Rnd4
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in pick 119 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick151
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis in pick No. 151 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
No edge and no loss on Jared Wiley in the 194th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick233
Rnd7
Eyabi Okie-Anoma
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at the 233rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
