Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The 49ers won the night they stopped Brooks from sliding. Grade: B+.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Tahj Brooks, the No. 199 name on the board, stolen at pick 249. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They are betting Pegues proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
The board had Jalon Walker higher than pick No. 36, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick43 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
They will replay Nick Emmanwori at the 43rd pick for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick75 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
The board fumbled TreVeyon Henderson all the way to slot 75, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick88 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in No. 88 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100 Rnd3 Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton in pick 100 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick113 Rnd4 Tai Felton
They let Tai Felton come to them and pounced at the 113th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138 Rnd4 Kobe King
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 36, where Kobe King graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick147 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at pick 147 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick149 Rnd5 Willie Lampkin
A big swing on Willie Lampkin at the 149th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick160 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant in No. 160 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick182 Rnd6 CJ West
No drama and no debate, CJ West went about where he belonged in pick No. 182. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick194 Rnd6 Jason Marshall Jr.
They paid up for Jason Marshall Jr. at Round 6, Pick 18 when waiting would have done the job. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick227 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the safety. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick249 Rnd7 Tahj Brooks
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Tahj Brooks in the 249th pick, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick252 Rnd7 Nick Martin
They talked themselves into Nick Martin at slot 252, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
