The Lions did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. The war room fell hard for Zion Logue, and it showed at Round 7, Pick 27: 43 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Rosengarten value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Taliese Fuaga
They read the board right and Taliese Fuaga was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 1. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick61
Rnd2
Junior Colson
Junior Colson slid further than he should have, and slot 61 is lovely value for the linebacker. The roster fit checks out.
Pick73
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil at No. 73 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson slipping to the 94th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick141
Rnd5
James Williams
Circle this one: James Williams at pick 141 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick163
Rnd5
Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson at pick No. 163 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick173
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in Round 5, Pick 37 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick207
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
Value with a capital V on Joe Milton III in the 207th overall pick, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Pick209
Rnd6
Logan Lee
Value said wait; Logan Lee in pick No. 209 says they were not listening. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick231
Rnd7
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick247
Rnd7
Zion Logue
Zion Logue at slot 247 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick249
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Frank Gore Jr. in pick 249, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
