The Falcons cashed the board's mistake on McMillan: C-. When a board-topper like Jalen McMillan slides to pick No. 109, you do not overthink it, and the Falcons did not.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Adding Jalen Ramsey by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Hit on Laiatu Latu and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
They took J.J. McCarthy at par in pick No. 43, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick57
Rnd2
Kalen King
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kalen King at No. 57. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick74
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
By-the-book stuff, Christian Haynes at the 74th pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick88
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley at Round 3, Pick 25 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick109
Rnd4
Jalen McMillan
They robbed the room for Jalen McMillan here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick135
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop is a better player than slot 135 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick189
Rnd6
Roger Rosengarten
Circle this one: Roger Rosengarten at pick 189 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick201
Rnd6
Omar Speights
A straight-up fair deal on Omar Speights at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick244
Rnd7
Zakhari Franklin
They barely believed it either: Zakhari Franklin still on the board at No. 244. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
