If confidence were a draft strategy, the Falcons would have aced it. Carson Steele at pick No. 241 is 41 spots clear of where he belonged.

Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Simpson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.
