Tgunz119 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the 49ers: B-. Some picks age like wine; Jack Westover at pick 251 will need to, sitting 70 spots clear of his grade.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Beebe at that price is a win they earned.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Jackson Powers-Johnson at the Round 1 slot, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
They let Cooper Beebe come to them and pounced at pick 63. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Javon Foster
They reached a country mile for Javon Foster at the 94th overall pick, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick124
Rnd4
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey at the 124th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick131
Rnd4
Mason McCormick
They jumped the gun on Mason McCormick, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick133
Rnd4
Kitan Oladapo
They reached into another round for Kitan Oladapo, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick176
Rnd6
Kamal Hadden
Nice patience on Kamal Hadden, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick211
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
No drama and no debate, Nathaniel Watson went about where he belonged in No. 211. It fills a real need, too.
Pick215
Rnd6
Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones at pick No. 215 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick251
Rnd7
Jack Westover
They talked themselves into Jack Westover at slot 251, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
