FutureB
Nobody dealt better than the Cardinals this weekend: B+. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Cardinals were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
They are betting Pratt proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will answer for taking cornerback early while edge rusher went begging.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Williams falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In pick No. 19 they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jackson Powers-Johnson. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick35
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They went early on T'Vondre Sweat in No. 35, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick81
Rnd3
Blake Corum
They paid sticker price for Blake Corum in pick 81, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick104
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
The board had Brenden Rice higher than Round 4, Pick 4, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick113
Rnd4
Michael Pratt
Michael Pratt in the 113th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher to take Jarvis Brownlee Jr., a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick138
Rnd5
James Williams
James Williams is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott slid further than he should have, and pick No. 139 is lovely value for the tight end. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
No drama and no debate, Jacob Cowing went about where he belonged in slot 148. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick179
Rnd6
Malik Mustapha
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Malik Mustapha at No. 179 is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick189
Rnd6
Trente Jones
Trente Jones in pick 189 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick190
Rnd6
Ro Torrence
A quiet steal in Round 6, Pick 15: Ro Torrence for less than the market said. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick248
Rnd7
Bub Means
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bub Means in the 248th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
