Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-

Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a B- for the Patriots.

The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.

The cost of the Tupuola-Fetui reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Muhammad III at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In pick 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Franklin. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
No edge and no loss on Sedrick Van Pran in the 67th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick125 Rnd4 Max Melton
A reasonable price with a little left over, Max Melton in Round 4, Pick 25. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick140 Rnd5 Ray Davis
A tidy little value on Ray Davis in No. 140, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick181 Rnd6 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
A wild overpay on Zion Tupuola-Fetui in pick No. 181, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick203 Rnd6 Moose Muhammad III
Nice patience on Moose Muhammad III, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick224 Rnd7 Francisco Mauigoa
Francisco Mauigoa in slot 224 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick246 Rnd7 Benjamin Yurosek
Benjamin Yurosek at Round 7, Pick 26 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
