Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB+ FutureA+
The Panthers aced the weekend. Grade: A-.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Panthers did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to safety, which was the need that mattered most. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.

Riley has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, James Pearce Jr. and all.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 James Pearce Jr.
In pick No. 3 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35 Rnd2 Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II in No. 35 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick65 Rnd3 Kaimon Rucker
A tidy little value on Kaimon Rucker in Round 3, Pick 1, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick66 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman at the 66th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67 Rnd3 Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley at pick 67 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick97 Rnd4 Collin Oliver
They paid up for Collin Oliver at the 97th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick129 Rnd5 Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick161 Rnd6 Jonathan Mendoza
A straight-up fair deal on Jonathan Mendoza at slot 161, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
