The 49ers checked most of the boxes and earned a B.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Xavier Truss in pick No. 249.

They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
