Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Steelers this weekend: B.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Steelers came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. No fireworks, but a solid B.

They are betting Bogle proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

It is not that Fisher is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. Getting Johnson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In slot 24 they get a lockdown presence outside. A real need, handled.
Pick33 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick48 Rnd2 Brandon Dorlus
They liked Brandon Dorlus enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 48. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick73 Rnd3 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 73 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick116 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 16 on Blake Fisher, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick121 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brenden Rice in the Round 4 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick124 Rnd4 Jaden Hicks
They paid sticker price for Jaden Hicks in pick 124, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick194 Rnd6 Khris Bogle
A wild overpay on Khris Bogle in the 194th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick224 Rnd7 Cornelius Johnson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cornelius Johnson at the 224th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick237 Rnd7 Khordae Sydnor
They talked themselves into Khordae Sydnor at the 237th overall pick, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick245 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
A reach for Sam Hartman in No. 245; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
