Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Commanders won the night they stopped Thornton Jr. from sliding. Grade: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Commanders were there to profit. Dont'e Thornton Jr., the No. 183 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 205th pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Mike Green
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a bendy edge with upside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick61 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at the 61st pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jacob Parrish
Good price on Jacob Parrish in No. 128, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick205 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 205 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick245 Rnd7 Sam Brown Jr.
No drama and no debate, Sam Brown Jr. went about where he belonged in the 245th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
