Draft Grade — Ravens

Gabriel should have been long gone. The Ravens pounced, and earned a B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Dillon Gabriel at pick No. 176 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Hairston pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
In slot 27 they get a ballhawk on the back end. More want than need.
Pick59 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at the 59th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick91 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ozzy Trapilo in the Round 3 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick129 Rnd4 Darius Alexander
Good price on Darius Alexander in pick 129, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick136 Rnd4 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland in pick No. 136 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick176 Rnd5 Dillon Gabriel
They robbed the room for Dillon Gabriel here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick183 Rnd6 Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley is a better player than Round 6, Pick 7 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
