Draft Grade — Lions
Overall F
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureD
Best value of the weekend goes to the Lions for Thomas: F.

The phones were a trap the Lions kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. A weekend to file away and forget, and an F to match.

They are betting Kneeland proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want. Getting Thomas where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with linebacker still staring back at them.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In the Round 1 slot they get an island corner, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick29 Rnd1 Adonai Mitchell
In the 29th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Fair-plus on Jackson Powers-Johnson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick61 Rnd2 Marshawn Kneeland
A real head-scratcher, Marshawn Kneeland in slot 61 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick87 Rnd3 Jaden Hicks
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaden Hicks. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick164 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey is a better player than pick 164 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick205 Rnd6 M.J. Devonshire
M.J. Devonshire at pick 205 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick253 Rnd7 Nathan Thomas
They will replay Nathan Thomas at slot 253 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
