The Oliver reach set a tone the 49ers could not shake: F.

The 49ers put a flag in the ground for Collin Oliver, 87 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A weekend to file away and forget, and an F to match.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Alexander pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and tight end.

That Thornton Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left quarterback open, and the grade is the bill.
