Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-

More right than wrong for the Browns, and a B- to prove it.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Browns spent the Round 6 slot on Davin Vann, a name most had 79 spots down the list.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Lambert-Smith. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In the 2nd pick they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Cameron Williams
They paid sticker price for Cameron Williams in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick67 Rnd3 Will Howard
Value said wait; Will Howard in the 67th overall pick says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick94 Rnd3 Tyler Baron
They talked themselves into Tyler Baron at slot 94, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick104 Rnd4 Jalen McLeod
Jalen McLeod in No. 104 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick179 Rnd6 Davin Vann
A big swing on Davin Vann at Round 6, Pick 3, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick192 Rnd6 DJ Giddens
They will replay DJ Giddens at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Pick200 Rnd6 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in pick No. 200 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick216 Rnd6 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith in pick 216 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick254 Rnd7 Cody Lindenberg
Cody Lindenberg slid further than he should have, and Round 7, Pick 38 is lovely value for the linebacker. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
