Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
B-
ValueC+

TradesB-
FutureB-
The Dolphins let Taylor fall and pounced. Final grade: B-. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Roc Taylor got past him. The Dolphins do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 256. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The cost of the Cross III reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Nic Scourton
In pick No. 13 they get a premier pass rusher, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick48
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in the 48th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick98
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at slot 98 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick116
Rnd4
Will Howard
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Will Howard in Round 4, Pick 14. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick135
Rnd4
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick150
Rnd5
Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III in No. 150 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick155
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
A tidy little value on Bhayshul Tuten in the 155th pick, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick224
Rnd7
Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in pick 224 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick231
Rnd7
Clay Webb
They went early on Clay Webb in Round 7, Pick 15, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick253
Rnd7
Mose Vavao
They talked themselves into Mose Vavao at No. 253, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick256
Rnd7
Roc Taylor
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 256 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
