Draft Grade — Chiefs

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Chiefs: B-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Chiefs spent pick No. 257 on Cooper Mays, a name the board had a full 40 spots lower. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Taylor where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Cameron Williams
In pick No. 31 they get a blindside protector. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63 Rnd2 Carson Schwesinger
Value said wait; Carson Schwesinger in slot 63 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick66 Rnd3 Trey Amos
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trey Amos at the Round 3 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick95 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
They read the board right and Mason Taylor was the payoff at No. 95. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick133 Rnd4 Tyler Cooper
Tyler Cooper in the 133rd overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick251 Rnd7 Tonka Hemingway
No drama and no debate, Tonka Hemingway went about where he belonged in pick 251. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick257 Rnd7 Cooper Mays
They reached a country mile for Cooper Mays at Round 7, Pick 41, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
