Draft Grade — Packers

Best value of the weekend goes to the Packers for Thornton Jr.: B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Dont'e Thornton Jr., the No. 173 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 237th pick.

They are betting Cooper proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Cameron Williams
In slot 23 they get a blindside protector, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick54 Rnd2 Zy Alexander
A wild overpay on Zy Alexander in No. 54, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick87 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins in pick 87 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick124 Rnd4 Tyler Cooper
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tyler Cooper this early at the 124th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick159 Rnd5 Cody Simon
A linebacker of that caliber at the 159th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick198 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at Round 6, Pick 22 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick237 Rnd7 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick250 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at pick No. 250 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
