The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Tampa: B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. T.J. Tampa at pick No. 94 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. The Tampa pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with running back, quarterback and other spots still on the board. The cost of the Murphy reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In pick 31 they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick63 Rnd2 Kiran Amegadjie
No edge and no loss on Kiran Amegadjie in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick94 Rnd3 T.J. Tampa
A surprising call. With running back, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 94 on T.J. Tampa, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick98 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
No drama and no debate, Christian Mahogany went about where he belonged in slot 98. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick129 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
They paid sticker price for Theo Johnson in No. 129, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick132 Rnd4 Jalen McMillan
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jalen McMillan in the 132nd pick, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick176 Rnd6 Jalyx Hunt
Jalyx Hunt at the 176th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the S-EDGE. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick202 Rnd6 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
The board had Zion Tupuola-Fetui higher than Round 6, Pick 27, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick209 Rnd6 Myles Murphy
Myles Murphy at the Round 6 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick214 Rnd6 Elijah Jones
They barely believed it either: Elijah Jones still on the board at the 214th overall pick. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick215 Rnd6 Myles Cole
They went early on Myles Cole in pick No. 215, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jowon Briggs
Fair-plus on Jowon Briggs, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
