Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureB+
The 49ers bled value on every deal, hence the D.

Nobody else had Oluwafemi Oladejo anywhere near the 149th overall pick. The 49ers did, by 90 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Put together, it is a D.

The Martinez value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In the 14th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick43 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
Somehow Colston Loveland was still sitting there in pick No. 43, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick44 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams in pick 44 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75 Rnd3 Aireontae Ersery
They robbed the room for Aireontae Ersery here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76 Rnd3 Tre Harris
You do not let a wide receiver like Tre Harris reach slot 76 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick100 Rnd3 Barrett Carter
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Barrett Carter in Round 3, Pick 36, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick113 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at No. 113 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick117 Rnd4 Sai'vion Jones
Value said wait; Sai'vion Jones in slot 117 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jaylin Noel
They barely believed it either: Jaylin Noel still on the board at the Round 4 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick147 Rnd5 Charles Grant
The board fumbled Charles Grant all the way to Round 5, Pick 9, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick149 Rnd5 Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo in pick 149 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick160 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
A big swing on JJ Pegues at pick No. 160, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick204 Rnd6 Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez at the 204th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick227 Rnd7 Clay Webb
They paid up for Clay Webb at the 227th pick when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick232 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
They went early on Jackson Hawes in slot 232, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick249 Rnd7 R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens at No. 249 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick252 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
A reasonable price with a little left over, Torricelli Simpkins III in the 252nd overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
