Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the 49ers: B-.

The 49ers did not so much draft Gabe Jacas as overpay for him, 132 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

They banked enough surplus on Tuten to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In pick No. 11 they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at slot 43 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
They let Alfred Collins come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 11. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick100 Rnd3 Jake Majors
They did well to land Jake Majors in the 100th pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick112 Rnd4 Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius slipping to the Round 4 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick137 Rnd4 Gabe Jacas
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Gabe Jacas. It fills a real need, too.
Pick186 Rnd6 Kobe Hudson
By-the-book stuff, Kobe Hudson at pick 186 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick221 Rnd7 Karene Reid
Taking Karene Reid in pick No. 221 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick230 Rnd7 Elijah Arroyo
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Elijah Arroyo in the 230th overall pick, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick249 Rnd7 Bhayshul Tuten
The board fumbled Bhayshul Tuten all the way to slot 249, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick254 Rnd7 Cooper Mays
Cooper Mays at No. 254 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
