Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
Quarterback settled, Nix in the fold, and a B- for the Commanders.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Bo Nix is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That Jones pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Cephus has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Bo Nix
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 2, Pick 4 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Quinyon Mitchell
They let Quinyon Mitchell come to them and pounced at pick 40. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick44 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
Troy Fautanu is a better player than the 44th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A tidy little value on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick No. 67, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick77 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in No. 77, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick86 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Johnny Wilson at the 86th overall pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick100 Rnd3 Marshawn Kneeland
No drama and no debate, Marshawn Kneeland went about where he belonged in slot 100. The roster fit checks out.
Pick102 Rnd4 Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving at Round 4, Pick 2 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick118 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
They took Darius Robinson at par in No. 118, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick138 Rnd5 Ben Sinnott
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ben Sinnott. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick141 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones at slot 141 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick159 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 159th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick181 Rnd6 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in pick No. 181 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick205 Rnd6 Michael Wiley
Michael Wiley at the 205th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick223 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus at pick 223 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick236 Rnd7 Mark Perry
Mark Perry in No. 236 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
