Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedC+ TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Steelers a B-.

You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Steelers spent No. 119 on Matt Goncalves while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat unaddressed. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Nourzad to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Melton.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Troy Fautanu
In pick No. 20 they get protection for the quarterback. More want than need.
Pick51 Rnd2 Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall at the 51st pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84 Rnd3 Max Melton
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Max Melton in Round 3, Pick 20. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick98 Rnd3 Cedric Gray
The board had cheaper options than Cedric Gray at slot 98, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Pick119 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
A want over a need in pick No. 119: Matt Goncalves adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick136 Rnd4 Hunter Nourzad
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Hunter Nourzad in the Round 4 slot leaves quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
