A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B-.

Of all the ways to open, the Steelers chose the head-scratcher, spending Round 4, Pick 19 on Blake Fisher with safety, edge rusher and other spots still wide open.

They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. They will need Jacobs to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Adonai Mitchell
In pick 20 they get a No. 1 receiver, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier in the 51st pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick84 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
They liked Khyree Jackson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 84. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick98 Rnd3 Maason Smith
Maason Smith at pick No. 98 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick119 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Blake Fisher in Round 4, Pick 19 leaves safety, edge rusher and other spots for later.
Pick178 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Curtis Jacobs well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick195 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
They took Joe Milton III at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
