Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Texans started one anyway for Jared Wiley, 33 picks ahead of schedule.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Jurkovec pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at pick 58 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick90 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley at the 90th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick123 Rnd4 Malik Mustapha
A reach on Malik Mustapha in pick No. 123; the board had better options right there. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick126 Rnd4 Will Shipley
They took Will Shipley at par in slot 126, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick163 Rnd5 Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley in No. 163 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick239 Rnd7 Phil Jurkovec
They let Phil Jurkovec come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick247 Rnd7 Carson Steele
Carson Steele at the 247th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
