Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Grand theft in slot 239: the Texans steal Clark and grade out a B-.

The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: De'Corian Clark, the No. 192 name on the board, sitting there at the 239th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. The Hopper pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Leonard Taylor III
In No. 27 they get an anchor for the defensive front, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at the 53rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick88 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson is a better player than Round 3, Pick 25 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick121 Rnd4 Max Melton
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Max Melton at pick 121 is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick127 Rnd4 Beau Brade
A quiet steal in the 127th pick: Beau Brade for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick158 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
They paid up for Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 158 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick239 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark in slot 239 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick242 Rnd7 Phil Jurkovec
Phil Jurkovec slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the quarterback. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
