Draft Grade — Cowboys

Blue should have been long gone. The Cowboys pounced, and earned a B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Jaydon Blue, the No. 176 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 204. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker. Robinson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
In pick No. 12 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 12 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick76 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Quinshon Judkins worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick149 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
Ty Robinson in slot 149 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick171 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 171 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174 Rnd5 Jack Nelson
A straight-up fair deal on Jack Nelson at the 174th pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick204 Rnd6 Jaydon Blue
They robbed the room for Jaydon Blue here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick211 Rnd6 Caleb Rogers
They let Caleb Rogers come to them and pounced at the 211th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick239 Rnd7 Zeek Biggers
They went early on Zeek Biggers in pick No. 239, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick247 Rnd7 Sam Brown Jr.
They took Sam Brown Jr. at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
