Conviction outran the board for the Lions, and it cost them: F. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Lions took Keaton Bills a full 35 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Landing Wallace that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a lockdown presence outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33
Rnd2
Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean in slot 33 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick40
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at No. 40 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick65
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
They did well to land Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
A conviction pick on Marshawn Kneeland at the 67th overall pick that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick164
Rnd5
Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki at pick 164 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick201
Rnd6
Erick All
Erick All in No. 201 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick205
Rnd6
Keaton Bills
They talked themselves into Keaton Bills at the 205th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick249
Rnd7
Trevin Wallace
A quiet steal in Round 7, Pick 29: Trevin Wallace for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
