Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Browns found their guy under center in Mendoza: B.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Fernando Mendoza is the Browns' quarterback, full stop. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The cost of the Cooper Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 6th pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick24 Rnd1 Gennings Dunker
In pick No. 24 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
No drama and no debate, Olaivavega Ioane went about where he belonged in slot 39. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick70 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
They went early on Omar Cooper Jr. in the 70th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick110 Rnd4 Xavier Scott
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Scott at pick 110 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick140 Rnd5 CJ Daniels
Good price on CJ Daniels in Round 5, Pick 1, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick145 Rnd5 Kage Casey
No edge and no loss on Kage Casey in No. 145; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick198 Rnd6 Jaren Kanak
Jaren Kanak at No. 198 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick205 Rnd6 Bryce Foster
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bryce Foster. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick248 Rnd7 PJ Williams
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 248 with a little surplus value in PJ Williams. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
