Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B+
ValueA- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Browns let Mondon Jr. fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

Somebody in No. 190 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Browns sat still while Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 104 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

The cost of the Williams reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

The Browns paired the rookies with proven help, Paris Johnson Jr. leading the way.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get an anchor for the defensive front, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick33 Rnd2 Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III at slot 33 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick47 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jalon Walker in No. 47, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick79 Rnd3 Quinn Ewers
They paid a round early for Quinn Ewers in pick No. 79, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 94th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick102 Rnd4 Azareye'h Thomas
Azareye'h Thomas in the 102nd pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick163 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177 Rnd6 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in pick 177 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Pick190 Rnd6 Smael Mondon Jr.
They will replay Smael Mondon Jr. at No. 190 for years; that is how good the value is. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick198 Rnd6 RJ Harvey
The board fumbled RJ Harvey all the way to the 198th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214 Rnd6 Upton Stout
They barely believed it either: Upton Stout still on the board at the 214th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick215 Rnd6 Tyler Cooper
Circle this one: Tyler Cooper at Round 6, Pick 40 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick256 Rnd7 Jake Briningstool
Taking Jake Briningstool in pick No. 256 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
