Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
The Browns answered their biggest question with Ward. Grade: B+.

You build a draft on nights like this. Cobee Bryant had no business being available in slot 257, and the Browns did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

So much rides on Cam Ward that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Reaching for Jackson left real value on the table behind him.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Cam Ward
In the 3rd pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III in pick 33 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick34 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with Jalon Walker worth more than the price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick65 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
Value with a capital V on Alfred Collins in Round 3, Pick 1, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick67 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
A real head-scratcher, Donovan Jackson in pick No. 67 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick94 Rnd3 Bradyn Swinson
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Bradyn Swinson in No. 94, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick103 Rnd4 TreVeyon Henderson
The board fumbled TreVeyon Henderson all the way to the 103rd pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick104 Rnd4 Mason Taylor
Taking Mason Taylor in the 104th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick165 Rnd5 Nick Nash
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nick Nash at pick 165 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick181 Rnd6 Robert Spears-Jennings
They barely believed it either: Robert Spears-Jennings still on the board at slot 181. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick194 Rnd6 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim in slot 194 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick202 Rnd6 Quincy Riley
You do not let a cornerback like Quincy Riley reach pick 202 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick216 Rnd6 Karene Reid
Circle this one: Karene Reid at the 216th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick217 Rnd6 Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick248 Rnd7 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at Round 7, Pick 30 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick257 Rnd7 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in No. 257 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
