Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesD- FutureA+
The Browns bet the future on Ward. The board says B.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Browns spent their marquee pick on Cam Ward, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

However the rest shakes out, Loveland at that price is a win they earned. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Cam Ward
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick45 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in slot 45, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick56 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at the 56th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick62 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland in the 62nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick67 Rnd3 Aireontae Ersery
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Aireontae Ersery in pick No. 67, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick80 Rnd3 Jack Bech
They let Jack Bech come to them and pounced at pick 80. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick94 Rnd3 Shemar Turner
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Shemar Turner at No. 94. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick104 Rnd4 Tai Felton
They did well to land Tai Felton in Round 4, Pick 2, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick170 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
No drama and no debate, Seth McLaughlin went about where he belonged in pick 170. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick179 Rnd6 RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey in slot 179 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick192 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Nothing to complain about; Jaylen Reed went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick200 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick216 Rnd6 Jason Marshall Jr.
They read the board right and Jason Marshall Jr. was the payoff at the 216th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick255 Rnd7 Ricky White III
Ricky White III at the 255th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
