FutureA
Good, not great, for the Cowboys: B. The Dwight McGlothern pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 32 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on Oladapo to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick59
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
They took Edgerrin Cooper at par in the 59th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick76
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick87
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
No drama and no debate, Bucky Irving went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 24. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick113
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
A straight-up fair deal on Ainias Smith at pick No. 113, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick114
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in slot 114 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick124
Rnd4
Will Shipley
Will Shipley at the 124th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick135
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in the 135th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick137
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
They did well to land Jordan Travis in slot 137, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick174
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
A slide stopped in the 174th overall pick, with Kitan Oladapo worth more than the price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick175
Rnd5
Christian Jones
Christian Jones at pick 175 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick217
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Value said wait; Dwight McGlothern in Round 6, Pick 42 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick233
Rnd7
Maurice Smith
By-the-book stuff, Maurice Smith at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
