skstoneman DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Steelers: B-. Of all the ways to open, the Steelers chose the head-scratcher, spending No. 52 on Jackson Powers-Johnson with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still wide open.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On value alone, Logan Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. The cost of the Fautanu reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Safety is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line, even if it was a touch early. More want than need.
Pick52
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Jackson Powers-Johnson while clear needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Pick84
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Good price on Mike Sainristil in Round 3, Pick 20, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick120
Rnd4
DJ James
Nothing to complain about; DJ James went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick121
Rnd4
Malik Washington
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malik Washington. It fills a real need, too.
Pick198
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
No edge and no loss on JD Bertrand in the 198th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick238
Rnd7
Kenny Logan Jr.
They let Kenny Logan Jr. come to them and pounced at slot 238. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
