Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Thor Griffith in slot 252. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Henderson. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Shemar Stewart
In the 11th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at pick 43 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
A running back of that caliber at the 75th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick100 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 113 with a little surplus value in Jordan Phillips. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138 Rnd4 Logan Brown
They paid a round early for Logan Brown in slot 138, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick147 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
By-the-book stuff, Pat Bryant at the 147th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick160 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
Ty Robinson at pick No. 160 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick171 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
A reach for JJ Pegues in slot 171; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jahvaree Ritzie
They reached into another round for Jahvaree Ritzie, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick252 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Thor Griffith well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
