Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Bengals, and a B- to prove it.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bengals would have aced it. Trajan Jeffcoat at No. 237 is 38 spots clear of where he belonged.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up. The Sinnott pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In the 18th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value.
Pick49 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
They took Xavier Worthy at par in slot 49, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick80 Rnd3 Mekhi Wingo
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mekhi Wingo well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick97 Rnd3 Cole Bishop
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cole Bishop in No. 97. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick115 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at the 115th overall pick is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick149 Rnd5 McKinnley Jackson
McKinnley Jackson in the Round 5 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick194 Rnd6 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at pick 194 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick214 Rnd6 M.J. Devonshire
They read the board right and M.J. Devonshire was the payoff at pick No. 214. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick224 Rnd7 Kendall Milton
They reached a country mile for Kendall Milton at the 224th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Pick237 Rnd7 Trajan Jeffcoat
A real head-scratcher, Trajan Jeffcoat in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jalen Sundell
They talked themselves into Jalen Sundell at the 238th pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
