FutureB
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Cardinals and Green: B+. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Cardinals came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
Landing Green that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. It is not that Carson is a bad player; it is that the Cardinals had louder needs to answer first. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Reaching for Carson left real value on the table behind him.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
They paid sticker price for Rome Odunze in the Round 1 slot, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick27
Rnd1
Graham Barton
A straight-up fair deal on Graham Barton at the 27th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brian Thomas Jr. in pick 35. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick38
Rnd2
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
A tidy little value on Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 38th pick, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick66
Rnd3
Braden Fiske
Nice patience on Braden Fiske, who had no business lasting to slot 66. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick71
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Lynn Polk. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Caelen Carson at cornerback with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open.
Pick90
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick104
Rnd4
Mekhi Wingo
No drama and no debate, Mekhi Wingo went about where he belonged in pick No. 104. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106
Rnd4
Renardo Green
Taking Renardo Green in Round 4, Pick 6 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
