FutureA+
Nobody dealt better than the Jets this weekend: A-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Jets would have aced it. Tyler Loop at Round 6, Pick 31 is 114 spots clear of where he belonged. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Burden III value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Devonte Wyatt pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Bottom line, with Tyler Warren leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In slot 23 they get a mismatch in the passing game at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick44
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III at pick 44 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick54
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
They liked Donovan Jackson enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick73
Rnd3
Shemar Turner
The board had cheaper options than Shemar Turner at pick No. 73, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Pick92
Rnd3
Danny Stutsman
A tidy little value on Danny Stutsman in No. 92, a step better than break-even. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick110
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 8 is lovely value for the cornerback. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117
Rnd4
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at No. 117 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick145
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough at Round 5, Pick 7 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick151
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jack Kiser well ahead of where he belonged. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick162
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
A straight-up fair deal on Chase Lundt at slot 162, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick175
Rnd5
Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick186
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
No edge and no loss on JJ Pegues in the 186th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick207
Rnd6
Tyler Loop
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tyler Loop in pick No. 207, miles early. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick223
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson in the 223rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick234
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
A wild overpay on Hayden Conner in pick No. 234, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
