Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureC+
The 49ers let Weeks fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

You build a draft on nights like this. Whit Weeks had no business being available in No. 192, and the 49ers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Reaching for Weigman left real value on the table behind him.

That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The 49ers paired the rookies with proven help, Brian Thomas Jr. leading the way.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick64 Rnd2 Kade Pieper
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kade Pieper at the Round 2 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick94 Rnd3 Nyck Harbor
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nyck Harbor this early at slot 94. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jayden Jackson
Jayden Jackson at the 133rd pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick148 Rnd5 J'Koby Williams
No drama and no debate, J'Koby Williams went about where he belonged in the 148th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick169 Rnd5 Justin Evans
Justin Evans at Round 5, Pick 32 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick190 Rnd6 Mateen Ibirogba
They barely believed it either: Mateen Ibirogba still on the board at pick No. 190. The roster fit checks out.
Pick192 Rnd6 Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks at pick 192 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick209 Rnd6 Drew Azzopardi
Drew Azzopardi at No. 209 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick237 Rnd7 Payton Pierce
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Payton Pierce in pick No. 237. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick251 Rnd7 Conner Weigman
Conner Weigman at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
